Exchange visits between peers are always a practical and effective tool to foster learning, highly benefiting visitors as well as host organisations. It is particularly true in bi communal contexts where speaking and exchanging with neighbour organisations or activists is a good way to increase collaboration, improve joint actions, disarm conflicts and build long lasting peace.
Recognising that learning from one another through a non-conventional way, outside the centre of usual activity and far from the classic capacity building exercises, is an important way to strengthen CSOs and activists from both communities, Civic Space organises exchange visits.
Two exchange visits were organised in October 2018 to create opportunities as well as a conducive environment for CSOs and activists to exchange, network and collaborate on issues of common interests in Famagusta and Limassol, two coastal locations with similarities in terms of architecture, art and environment.
The next two visits were organised in May 2019, in partnership with the Environmental Society of Lefka and Laona Foundation, around the mining areas near Lefka/Lefke, Skouriotissa and Mathiatis to discover the environmental impact of mining in these areas and to foster dialogue, exchange of best practices and mutual learning between environmental and health CSOs and activists in both communities.
